My Story Of Becoming A Craigslist Power Seller
( Please, spend a few minutes reading it. I promise there is a very good point you’ll need to understand before starting selling on CL ).
My name is Paul Frolov, I’m an entrepreneur, online marketer, and a professional blogger at www.ExtraHyperActive.com
I started using CL back in 2001 when it was truly a small community oriented, not very well known site, where people were selling unwanted goods, but more often traded or bartered goods and services.
Back then, a friend of mine introduced me to eBay, and as an alternative, we used CL to search for cheap goods that we could resell on eBay, or back on CL if there was demand for it ( which back then there rarely was ).
Originally, CL was designed to be used within a certain community, neighborhood, city, and the main form of goods exchange was barter/trade ( rather than sales ); scams and spam were rarely an issue. Back then, buying/selling/trading/bartering on CL was easy, hassle free, and somewhat profitable.
Back then, I was in my early 20’s, and selling on eBay and CL combined with basic online marketing and occasional cash gigs that I’d find on CL ( moving help, small time construction/remodeling jobs, computer and guitar lessons …), I lived a worry-free ( and tax-free ! ) life.
Later on, when I “grew up”, and got a “real job”, when eBay shut down my account ( for, allegedly, fraudulent activities ) , and my friend and business partner moved away, I stopped using CL till about 2007.
In 2007 when I started a family, and , just like many people, was looking for other ways to make extra money, I decided to go back to CL.
That’s when I realized how drastically this site had changed !
Due to overflowing amount of scams, spam ( and murder ! ), the site has become the online version of Wild Wild West - the sheriff ( site admins ) were tightening the rules and regulations, and the scores of scammers, spammers, and plain criminals were trying to figure out how to take advantage of innocent people.
By that time the site had become extremely popular, due to all kinds of financial gurus and other “advisors” who were telling people that CL was a great way to make millions selling old stuff from grandma's’ basement, and it had become impossible to make any honest money.
In 2009 I came across a site called blogger.com, and , without even knowing it, I became a blogger, and an online marketer.
It just happened that my “niche” was adventure travel and the great outdoors. I started doing a lot of outdoor activities, and as you might know, they all require different types of outdoor gear.
And since I couldn’t afford buying gear from REI (popular outdoor brand in Washington state ) or from retail stores, I went back to CL to search for better/cheaper deals.
And this is where my story begins !
The more stuff/outdoor gear I was buying from CL, the more I was realizing that most people were selling their gear way too cheap ( comparing to the same REI or retail stores ). Yet, there was consistent demand for outdoor/fitness gear ( Washingtonians are very active and outdoorsy ! ).
I started buying extra bikes, skis, snowboards, surfboards..., and little by little I started making enough cash to afford buying nicer gear for myself, and even had extra money to travel around the state, and even made my first trip to Whistler , BC ( and as you might know, this Canadian ski resort is very expensive ).
My blogging/online business started picking up, I quit my job, rented a storage unit, and started buying/selling more stuff from CL.
AND HERE IS THE POINT OF MY STORY !
Most people simply don’t know WHAT to buy/sell on CL ( or eBay ) to make extra money.
That’s why, before you start, IT’S VERY IMPORTANT to find/start with goods/items that YOU PERSONALLY USE, and , know , if not everything, at least as much as possible about the goods/items that you want to sell on CL !
